The discussion is about the role of social media in the election campaign. Social media is present in politics and media especially since the results of the elections in America and the outcome of the Brexit referendum. This role is boosted with special meaning in connection to the German elections in autumn 2017. What is the influence of the technical possibilities in “the net” and how does “the net” affect campaigns? Who wants to influence the results of the democratic elections and how is it organized? Are algorithms affecting international politics? Does a new Cold War now exist, in “the net” and did the new “arms race” get started? Together with the experts we try to explore the questions and more while illustrating the connections of the factors of influence.

Location: Museum Five Continents, Munich, April 5th 2017.
